First launched to commemorate Dilmah’s 25-year journey, the Silver Jubilee Gourmet is a testament to the brand’s commitment to maintaining integrity, quality, and freshness.
The history of Dilmah began in 1988 when its founder, Merrill J. Fernando, introduced the brand in Melbourne.He dedicated himself to the beverage after seeing the tremendous potential of Ceylon tea. Originating in Sri Lanka, it is a black tea variant best known for its intense flavour. The tea also contains antioxidant compounds useful for warding off free radicals. Realising that Ceylon tea was heading towards commoditisation, he then decided to produce tea ethically.
Fernando had a novel idea for the tea industry: to offer consumers a cup of tea that embodies ethics and integrity. He wanted to position his tea brand as more than just a beverage producer but positioning it as a humanitarian service. This inspired him to establish the MJF Charitable Foundation to support workers and their families who produce Dilmah tea. He subsequently founded Dilmah Conservation as a commitment to environmental and wildlife care.
Fast forward to 2013, and Dilmah celebrated its 25th anniversary by presenting a new product, the Silver Jubilee Gourmet. This range features single-origin and 100-percent pure Ceylon tea, which showcases the brand’s commitment to quality. The Silver Jubilee Gourmet comprises 18 different varieties, representing Dilmah’s diverse tea offerings. In addition to this, the brand has remained true to its roots while infusing a contemporary touch, making this range a fitting tribute to its tea tapestry that has been woven over the past two decades. These creations offer tea lovers a taste of the essence of goodness and luxury captured in every infusion.
There are two popular variants of Ceylon tea. The Ceylon Rose & Mint has a soft, rosy aroma enriched with a minty sparkle. Despite being a dark infusion, it is a light and elegant tea that leaves a perfumed, refreshed sensation on the palate. The other variant is Ceylon Original Breakfast Tea, which is perfect for morning routines. Its intense colour and pungency truly represent the finesse of Ceylon tea.
